I was at a national panel for Ashoka some months ago sharing the work I do with women in rural communities of Ondo State. Some of them were shocked at the level of poverty notable in these areas.
Sometimes, all we need to do is listen - listen to the stories of how people live their lives and then brainstorm on how to create value and opportunities for them.
My project called Rebirth is to encourage women empowerment and entrepreneurship in rural communities so as to create a source of income generation for them to further improve their standards of living and that of their children.
We train low income earning women in skills to support their livelihood and increase their relevance in society.
To some people living in urban or developed areas, these stories may not resonate with them because that reality was never real in their world.
But the truth is, there so many problems in this world, poverty, hunger, global warming and so on.
Dwelling on the problem is not enough, creating sustainable solutions to them is the real deal.
Rural communities should not be left behind in development. People live there too, they deserve equal opportunities to access financial independence, good health care and qualitative education.
I am making this happen, I am rural rugged
