In June 2020, I was invited by Cordillera Youth Movers Programme; an organization based in the Philippines committed to educating young people on the global goals to inspire actions for sustainable development.
I had the honour to meet, discuss and provide information to indigenous youths in the Cordillera province of the Philippines as a resource person on the UN SDG goal 1 (No poverty) for the Afternoon Interview Session during the CYMP Weekend Training for aspiring SDG Advocates-Movers in Cordillera.
It was a High-Level Training to engage Cordilleran youths to the Sustainable Development Goals and develop some solution-based projects that we can conduct and implement in the region.
While my focus SDG was no poverty, I created a balance on how Goal 5, gender equality is a vital factor for the eradication of global poverty.
Knowing that an investment in women and girls through entrepreneurship, leadership and decision making can facilitate economic growth which will consequently improve the standards of living of people, I made reference to my project, Rebirth that provides free skill acquisition and vocational programs for women in rural and underprivileged communities in Nigeria. This is a sustainable means to break the financial inequality in global economies and also facilitate gender equality.
By investing in women, we are investing in the possibility of a better world with no poverty.
Thank you Philippines for the honour to share my knowledge and also interact with youths for a multicultural environment.
